Alan ChaiSelangor had its 1st Storytelling Festival yesterday, held in Majlis Perbandaran Petaling Jaya (MBPJ) Bandar Utama Community Hall, Petaling Jaya.
Bukit Lanjan state assembly person Elizabeth Wong officiated the event and urged the parents to inculcate a love of reading in their children as she believes that it will lead to a more tolerant, knowledgeable and progressive society.
She wants all future Malaysians to be fluent in the national language while also having a good command of English, as well as their respective mother tongues.
“I hope the parents here today will encourage your kids to read not only in your first language, but also the many languages spoken by your fellow Malaysians. There really is no such thing as having too much knowledge,” she added.
Some popular storytellers were there to lend support. They were Uncle Fat from Taiwan, Hasniah Hussain (Mama Tok), Judith Anne Shaik, Sophie Lee, Kang Lee Eng, ISIS, Lim Meng Sin and Yeow Fong Wei.
The event were jointly organised by Elizabeth Wong Bukit Lanjan Service Centre and Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Picture Book Society.
