Malaysia Ink: tattoo artists gather in Miri, Sarawak

The art exhibition attracted more than a thousand visitors comprising of tattoo enthusiasts and the curious.

Tattoo art unites! SeaHorse Studio and Gallery recently organised the Second Annual Tattoo exhibition in Miri.

The exhibition focused primarily on the Asian element of the art form to create awareness of its heritage, and to dispel negative connotations of tattoos, those who sport them, and their artists.

Held at Eastwood Valley and Country Club, the three-day exhibition was an international platform for tattoo artists from around the world. They came from Bali, Jakarta, Thailand, Brunei, Philippines, Hong Kong and Holland, besides those from Miri, Kuching, Kapit, Kota Kinabalu, Kuala Lumpur, Perak, Penang and Johor.

A special appearance was made by Albar Tikam Body piercer and modification from Bali, Indonesia; Jerry Kamit, an International Sape player and singer from Kuching, Sarawak; and, Masterpiece, a well-regarded Iban Rock band.

The exhibition was officiated by Miri’s Mayor Lawrence Lai.
