National Council of Senior Citizens Organisations Malaysia (NACSCOM) President, Datuk Dr Soon Ting Kueh in his speech at the JB Senior Citizens Association’s 25th Anniversary dinner held in Johor Bahru recently said that the government is not ready and prepared for an aging population. He urged the government to provide facilities for the aged in Malaysia. .
Soon Boon Keng, the secretary of the Senior Citizens’ Association Johor Bahru and the organizing chairman of the anniversary dinner, in his welcoming address reminded the proposal submitted to NACSCOM last year.
This proposal was to urge the government to issue a senior card to a person on reaching the age of 60 years. This could be done through the National Registration Department or the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development. This senior card will enable all senior citizens aged 60 years and above to directly and conveniently enjoy whatever welfare, medical and health services and other benefits and concessions such as entrance fees to public places by just producing the senior card.
This year’s recipient of the Senior Citizens’ Association Johor Bahru’s Roll of Honor went to See Pat Kuang, aged 65. In his absence, his award was received by his wife Lilian Ooi.
