The Kedah State Government has appealed to the Federal Government for assistance in dealing with the possibility of the flood which is expected to hit the state next month.
Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said the state government would be sending a letter to the central government to request for assistance to help the state government grapple with the problem.
“We are requesting for between RM6 million and RM10 million. If we were to face the floods like those in Thailand, what are we to do? Where is the state government going to find the money,” he told reporters after the Kubang Pasu District People-Friendly Programme in Pekan Kodiang yesterday.
He said he was disappointed with the decision of the central government in not giving direct listing to Kedah in the 2012 Budget on flood allocation.
“Perak which was not affected by the flood was allocated and why was Kedah a state frequently hit by the flood left out?” asked Azizan.
In early November last year, three districts in the state namely Padang Terap, Kubang Pasu and Kota Setar were badly affected by floods involving more than 40,000 people.
