Protest to stop Rajapaksa’s entrance to Malaysia

Indian groups held protest march from Little India Brickfields to Jalan Travers police station on Saturday 24th November 2012 to lodge a police report against Sri Lankan President’s visit to Johor Bahru to attend the World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in Johor Bahru from Dec 4 till Dec 6.

Speaking to Citizen Journalists Malaysia (CJMY) Vice President of PKR N.Surendran who was among those protesting against the arrival of Sri Lankan President, Mahinda Rajapaksa to Malaysia said that the issue in Sri Lanka is a Human Rights issue.

“We want the whole world including Malaysia to exert pressure on the GOSL to ensure justice is done for the Tamils in Sri Lanka.

“We are dissapointed with the Barisan National government for not having had supported the US led resolution against Sri Lanka,” he added.

MP for Teluk Intan M. Manogaran speaking at a press conference outside police station soon after having lodged a police report said that there is no problem with the World Islamic Economic Forum.”

We are only protesting against the arrival of Rajapaksa to Malaysia. Malaysia has a large Tamil population and he hoped that the government will respect the sensitivities of the tamils.”

He also implied that that in the event Rajapakse is allowed into the country, everything necessary to prevent Rajapaksa from speaking at the Forum will be considered.

Viveka Sri AP Raja Retinam member of the NGO’s umbrella group – Sri Lanka War Victims Concerned team ,said the the UMNO and BN Government under Najib has failed to consider the senitivities of the Tamil Community in Malaysia in having had extended a red carpet welcome to a person who is called a war criminal by the rest of the world.

Chairman of the Indian NGO’s Mr Vethamoorty who lodged the Police Report said that there will be a massive protest in Johor on the 4th of December if Rajapakse is allowed to enter the country.

“On the 27th of November we will hand over a memorandum in Parliment asking the Malaysian Government to stop Rajapaksa from entering the country,” he added.
