Selangor treasure officer Mohd Arif Abdul Rahman and MPSJ city service department officer Azura Mohd Don were linked to a backdoor drainage contract in an anonymous blogpost last week.
The blogger alleged the duo awarded a RM3 million drainage contract at Subang Jaya to 27 companies without going through an open tender process, prompting questions of abuse of power.
It was found only six of the 27 contractors were registered with the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN), a compulsory requirement for procuring government contracts.
The blogger alleged that Azura and Mohd Arif were close, so much so that the latter would quickly approve the lists of contract awardees created by Azura.
He also said that each contractor stood to gain about RM100,000 from the contract awarded.
To support his claims, the blogger also posted a copy of an approval letter dated March 2010.
PAS youth wing asks for probe
The scandal surfaced yesterday when the Selangor PAS youth wing handed a memorandum to Selcat chairman Teng Chang Khim, urging for an investigation into the matter.
“This goes against Pakatan’s promise of awarding contracts through open tenders, which the state government made official in a circular issued by the state treasury,” youth chief Hasbullah Mohd Ridzwan said.
A copy of the memorandum was also given to Selangor Menteri Besar Khalid Ibrahim.
