The Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) revenue recorded during the Thaipusam festival last month showed an increase of 115.1 per cent or RM114,896.10, from RM247,068.40 recorded last year.

KTMB president Dr Aminuddin Adnan said the increase was due to the availability of direct KTM Komuter service to Batu Caves, without having to transit at the Sentul station.

He said the number of passengers using the train had also showed a two-fold increase to 80,449 people, as compared to 48,490 people last year, he told reporters at the Sentul station here today.

During the three-day festival which began on Jan 19, KTMB provided 208 special train services and 72 additional KTM Komuter services, every 30 minutes.

Aminuddin said KTMB would continue to provide the best train service to passengers and solve all problems and delays by year-end, with the arrival of 38 new passenger coaches from China.
