The National Blood Bank has appealed for 400 to 500 units of blood, particularly of the A and O types, to meet the demand in hospitals in the Klang Valley.

The blood was required to meet the demand in the post-Chinese New Year period and during the school holidays next month, it said in a statement.

“The blood was most required for treatment of cases such as organ transplants and for patients suffering from Thalassaemia, haemophilia and dengue haemorrhagic fever,” it added.

The statement said the bank would operate between 8 am and 4 pm on the public holiday on Tuesday in conjunction with Prophet Muhammad’s birthday.
