Nigerian detainees escapes from KLIA

Two Nigerian men, who were scheduled to have been deported yesterday, escaped enroute to the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.

Two Nigerian men, who were scheduled to have been deported yesterday, escaped enroute to the KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang.

Home Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mahmood Adam said the duo escaped about 11.30pm while being taken from the KLIA immigration detention depot where they were detained for misuse of student pass.

He said a police-assisted operation was underway to track down the foreigners, identified as Solomon Udo Eneh and Osuji Chinedu.

The two immigration officers who accompanied the duo had been suspended from duties, he added.

“A task force has been formed to investigate the incident. We are also investigating how the two men could get away as the depot and the KLIA are located at close distance,” Mahmood told reporters after opening the National Registration Department’s Innovation Day here today.

The Nigerians were among three detainees scheduled to have been deported yesterday. The other detainee, a Palestinian, has been deported.

Mahmood urged those with information on the Nigerians to alert the authorities to facilitate investigations.
