MAN MASQUERADING AS POLICE TRIES TO CON KINDERGARTEN PRINCIPAL

A man claiming to be a police officer tried to con a kindergarten principal but the woman wised up to him.

Lim Wei Heng, 61, received a call on Oct 18 from the man who claimed to be an officer at the Federal police headquarters here (Bukit Aman).

“The man identifying himself as ASP Foo called me at 10.41am telling me that two men known to me had been arrested by Hong Kong police,” she told a press conference at Wisma MCA here today.

She said when she denied having any involvement in criminal activities, “ASP Foo” then told her to contact one “Inspector Wong”.

She added that she ignored the caller and brought up the matter with MCA’s Public Service and Complaints Department chief Datuk Michael Chong.

Speaking at the same press conference, Chong said investigations revealed no such police officers existed at Bukit Aman and that the culprits were trying to cheat Lim of her money.

He said last year alone, there were 10 such cases where the victims lost almost RM40,000.

“Based on their modus operandi, the syndicate is believed to have access to details of individuals and how much money the potential victims have in their bank accounts.

“The conmen will promise to solve the potential victims’ problems for a fee which they will ask to deposit into a designated bank account,” he added.
