Penang: MTUC Picket

Penang: MTUC Picket

In view of the Govt refusal to revoke the Employee Bill (Amendments) 2011, the MTUC launch a simultaneous nationwide picket on Nov 3, 2011.

In Penang, despite the heavy downpour, many workers showed their support and came to picket in front of the Pearl View hotel in Chai Leng Park, Prai.

The rain did not dampen their spirits, albeit it helped to “cool” down their anger. The crowd were well behave and here was no untoward commotion, while the police stood by to assist traffic flow and crowd control.

The Labour unions have accused the government of bringing back “slave-like” conditions with amendments to the Employment Act that erode protection for workers.

The organiser, MTUC said it was a successful picket, and the workers’ message was sent loud and clear. They were  please with the crowd turnout, which was more than they anticipated. This certainly give MTUC the encouragement to push harder in its  endeavour to pursue better rights for all workers.
