The three-month preparation was clearly worth it for a man weighing 150kg who took part in the Allianz Penang Bridge International Marathon yesterday.

Yong Kah Leong, in his 30s, succeeded in completing the 10km run in the Men’s Open category.

He attributed his success to running 2km daily in the last few months, in preparation for the race.

“Although I was trailing the other runners, the cheers and encouragement from my team-mates and other participants was the ‘push factor’ to finish the run,” he told reporters.

Yong, who works as an event manager for Proton Berhad, hoped his display of endurance at the marathon would serve as an inspiration for others to lead a healthy lifestyle.
