Penang Chief Minister, Lim Guan Eng foresees the China Cultural Festival becoming another annual event.

China’s most revered director, Zhang Yimou choreographed an enthralling performance titled “Impression-Liu Sanjie” in a recently organised “China Cultural Festival” at the Esplanade.

The Penang State Tourism, Development and Culture department organised this event to foster bilateral relations between Malaysia and China especially through the tourism industry and to showcase China’s cultural diversity.

“Impression-Liu Sanjie” is a story which originates from the Zhuang people, the largest minority group in China. The story is about a woman called Liu Sanjie, which means “third sister”.

The legend tells the tale of Liu Sanjie who from very tender age had a voice so beautiful that it could raise the dead. The story became extremely popular that in 1960 a movie was released.
