Indonesian workers in Malaysia remitted US1.7 billion in the third quarter of this year, Indonesia’s central bank said.

Bank Indonesia said the remittance represented more than half, or 57 percent, of a total of US$2.91 billion sent back by Indonesian workers in the Asia-Pacific region.

A central bank spokesperson Difi Johansyah was quoted by detik.com news portal that remittance by Indonesian workers overseas reached US$5.05 billion for the whole of the third quarter this year. The Malaysian portion represents more than a third, or 33 percent of this global figure.

Remittance from the Middle East and Africa, presumably for the same period, was US$2.01 billion.
