Choppy seas in Sarawak, Sabah waters till Saturday

Strong easterly wind with a speed of 40 to 50kph and waves of up to 3.5m high which are reported in the waters of Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan, Condore, Reef North, Layang-Layang and Palawan are expected to continue until Saturday.

According to a statement issued by the Meteorological Department in Kota Kinabalu today, the sea condition was dangerous to small boats, recreational activities and sea sports.

The department also disclosed that the thunderstorms and heavy rains occurring in the divisions of Tawau, Semporna, Kunak and Lahad Datu, Sandakan (Tongod and Kinabatangan districts) and the interior areas (Pensiangan district) are expected to continue until late this evening.

The condition could lead to flash floods in low-lying areas and along the river banks.
