Perlis Menteri Besar Dr Md Isa Sabu wants farmers in the state to market their own agricultural products for better
He hoped that farmers could stop selling their products through middlemen.
“For example, a farmer takes months to grow papayas and tend to the trees, but the middleman who buys the fruits from him makes more than he does with less
effort,” he said at the State Farmers Organisation general meeting here today.
The organisation comprises 1 district farmers associations and three agro-based cooperatives.
Its chairman, Rashid Jasin, said the organisation recorded a profit of RM1.5 million last year, compared to RM1.3 million in 2009, by providing farm machinery service.
