In an effort to deliver social services to the people in the state, the “Skuad Sayang” (Love Squad) of Pengkalan Chepa Wanita Umno yesterday visited 15 Chinese families in three state constituencies in the Kota Bharu area.

Pengkalan Chepa Wanita Umno head Zarina Md. Eusope said the squad led by her was also accompanied by Pengkalan Chepa Wanita MCA head Liew Yuen Thye, chairman of the federal village development and security committee (JKKKP) of Kampung Cina, Eng Yeng Fong, and 15 women members of the movement.

“This programme is one of our efforts to ensure the welfare of the people. Today, we visited the Chinese families in three state constituencies of Panchor, Kijang and Cempaka.

“During the visits, we spent time asking about their well-being and getting to know them so that appropriate assistance can be given, besides handing over to them some basic food stuff,” she told reporters.

She said the activity would be continued and the focus would be on those who faced calamities such as floods, storms and fires, particularly the poor, orphans and single mothers.

Zarina said the squad would also ensure that this group received appropriate assistance from the Welfare Department.

To date, almost 2,000 families had been visited by the squad and more than half of them had been receiving aid from the department, she added.
