Bentong Kali: Reign of terror in Klang Valley

In the early 1990s, the mere mention of the name ‘Bentong Kali‘ sent shivers down the spine of many in Malaysia’s Klang Valley, especially in Jalan Klang Lama. P. Kalimuthu, a notorious gangster, was responsible for 17 murders, including innocent victims, between 1990 and 1993.

Kalimuthu’s murders were carried out in a ruthless and brutal fashion, with many executed in broad daylight in a style that became known as ‘Bentong Kali.’ His victims were primarily ‘business enemies,’ with disputes centred on drug production and trafficking. However, many innocent victims also fell prey to his violence.

On June 29th, 1993, Malaysian police caught up with Kalimuthu and gunned him down, bringing an end to his reign of terror. The execution-style killings of Kalimuthu left a lasting impact on Malaysia, and his name still evokes fear and notoriety today.
