The Langkawi Marine Operations Force (MOF) foiled an attempt to smuggle diesel into a neighbouring country and confiscated
2,500 litres of the fuel and detained two local men, aged 22 and 38, in waters off Kuala Perlis early yesterday morning.

Marine Operations Force (Region 1) Commanding Officer DSP Salehuddin Md Zaman said the total value of the diesel and boat was RM37,000.

“Acting on information, a five-man team was patrolling the waters at 3am when they bumped into a trawler acting suspicious.

“When we approached the boat and directed it to move towards the Kuala Perlis LKIM Jetty, the two men attempted to escape but we managed to catch them,” he told a news conference at the Bukit Malut base, yesterday.

He said upon inspection, they found 2,500 litres of diesel hidden in a special compartment on the boat.
