In the Johor Bahru Session Court here, Lee Bok Piu, 58, was sentenced to one day jail and fined RM17,500 or in lieu 20 months hail after he pleaded guilty to a charge for offering a RM3,500 bribe to a police officer on April 13 last year.
Session Court Judge, Madihah Hairullah is the presided over the case.
According to the charge sheet, Lee was alleged to have offer the bribe to Lance Corporal Toda Priengok as an inducement not to press charges against him for pilfering diesel in the Jalan Alsagoff boat jetty in Pontian Kecil.
Lee is charged under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009 and if found guilty , he can be jailed up to twenty years and fined five times the bribed amount or RM10,000 whichever is higher.
In his appeal, Lee inform the court that he us not holding a permanent job and is suffering from severe migraine attack.
He also told the court that he is jobless and he is helping out in the boat jetty adding that he has a old and sick mother to care for and appeal to the court to impose a lighter sentence.
MACC prosecuting officer, Mohd Faizal Sadri urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence to reflect the seriousness of the offence in trying to bribe a civil servants and act as an deterrence factor to others .
Lee was unrepresented and he later paid the fine.
