One thousand members of the Indian community are to receive identification, birth and citizenship documents soon, MIC deputy president S. Subramaniam said today.
Subramaniam, who is Minister of Human Resources, said the National Registration Department had processed their applications for birth certificates, identification cards and citizenship status.
“We were told by the department that 1,000 applications had been processed under the ‘My Daftar’ programme,” he told reporters here after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding by Dassault Systemes, Strand Aerospace Malaysia and Feiran Technology.
Subramaniam said the MIC had asked all primary and secondary schools in the country to inform the party of students without identification documents so that their problem could be resolved.
The MIC had so far received reports of 1,700 cases of students without identity documents, 10 per cent of whom were from the Indian community, he said.
The ‘My Daftar’ programme for the Indian community carried out from Feb 19 to 26, was organised by the special task force for the Indian community in cooperation with the Home Ministry.
