Former Citizen Journalist Wins Award for Report on Land Clearing

GEORGE TOWN : Former citizen journalist from Citizen Journalist Malaysia (CJMY) made the online portal proud by bagging honors at the recently concluded Penang Green Journalism Award 2015 (English category).

Former citizen journalist from Citizen Journalist Malaysia (CJMY)  made the online portal proud by bagging honors at the recently concluded Penang Green Journalism Award 2015 (English category).

Imran Hilmy Tawfik Hilmy who is now with theSun newspaper won Excellent Awards for News Report in the contest organized by the Penang Green Council (PGC).

He won for his entry State government urged to explain clearing activities in Bukit Laksamana that highlighted the issue of some 3.2ha land on the hill that was cleared without any signboard showing who was responsible for the earthworks nor the purpose of clearing the land.

When contacted, Imran Hilmy , 37, expressed his gratitude to the PGC for recognizing journalists who took efforts in preserving the green environment in the state.

“I don’t expect to win it. Never at all”, he said.

He  also thanked his northern bureau chief Aaron Ngui and the rest of editorial team for their collective effort in making the story presentable to readers.

Awards were given in 17 categories in total by PGC in this year Penang Green Journalism Award.

Imran Hilmy, joined CJMY in 2010 as a video and citizen journalist and was an active contributor to the portal site.

He later joined theSun in 2014 northern bureau as its journalist.
