Federal Territories Foundation proposes to raise age limit of its scheme

A proposal to raise the age limit of members of the Concern Scheme of the Federal Territories (FT) Foundation (sic) (Skim Prihatin Yayasan Wilayah Persektutuan) to 80 years of age will be discussed by the foundation soon.

Federal Territories and Urban Well-being minister, Raja Nong Chik said the move was to enable more senior citizens to join the scheme where a RM2,500 financial aid would be given to beneficiaries for funeral expenses.

“At present, the scheme caters for residents between 21 and 75 years of age, who are registered voters in the Federal Territories,” he told reporters after attending a community programme at Taman Sri Sentosa Phase 1 here today.

The scheme, which was launched by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on August 16, last year, is open to Federal Territories’ voters regardless of race or religion based on certain criteria.

This report does not state what those criteria are.

Under the scheme managed by the Federal Territories Foundation, a member need to pay a lifetime subscription fee of RM5 and nominate a beneficiary to receive the financial aid for funeral expenses.

In another development, he said repair work on 59 blocks of flats in the Lembah Pantai Parliamentary constituency, including Taman Sri Sentosa flat, at the cost of RM9 million would start next month. This figure comprises RM6.5 million for repainting the flats, and RM2.5 million for lift repairs.

This allocation was approved following the visit of Prime Minister Najib Razak to Lembah Pantai last October. The Prime Minister’s Department will monitor the progress of the project and submit a report to Najib.
