The implementation of the Solid Waste and Urban Cleansing Management Act 2007 (Act 672) has been postponed to another date to be announced by the government.
Housing and Local Government Minister, Chor Chee Heung (left) said the enforcement of the Act which was supposed to be effective this April 30 had to be postponed as some technical aspects needed to be sorted out first.
“The issues have been discussed at the Cabinet level recently after which the prime minister felt that some technical aspects needed to be further looked into and finalised.
“These include finance….so (the prime minister) asked that we take it (Act) back and discuss the issues,” Chor said after handing out aid to 40 victims of a storm that struck early this month, in Taman Wira Mergong, here, yesterday.
On states which had not accepted the policy of privatising solid waste management set by the federal government, he said it was not a problem as the privatisation could still proceed.
Chor said Perak and Penang had not agreed to the scheme, but would consider it after seeing the effectiveness of its implementation.
Act 672 will be enforced in accordance with the Key Performance Indicators which involves continuous monitoring by the Solid Waste and Urban Cleansing Management Corporation.
This will ensure the public, smooth management of solid waste.
