Miss Malaysia Kebaya delegation visits Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR – The objective of the visit was to get support especially from the media industry to highlight and spread cultural awareness about the kebaya to the younger generation

Miss Malaysia Kebaya (MMK) ladies clad in their exquisite kebaya paid an official visit to Malaysian national news agency Bernama headquarters at Wisma Bernama, Kuala Lumpur on  7th November 2018. A delegation of Miss Malaysia Kebaya (MMK) led by its founder and president Jason Hee paid a visit to Malaysian national news agency Bernama headquarters at Wisma Bernama in Kuala Lumpur on 7th November 2018.

The delegates, including reigning beauty queen Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2017/2018 Nor Natasha Suhaira Suhaimi, finalists of Miss & Mrs Malaysia Kebaya 2018/2019, national director Nicole Fe Lynne, ambassadors and MMK media team, was welcomed by Bernama chairman Datuk Seri Azman Ujang.

Jason said the objective of the visit was to get support especially from the media industry to highlight and spread cultural awareness about the kebaya to the younger generation, especially the Gen Y-ers so that it can carried on the tradition and not forgotten in the future.

“We share our opinion and experience with Bernama team on how we can improve on cultural education based not only on beauty but also using our beautiful and talented kebaya beauty queens to become a spokesperson for promoting the traditional costume and tourism industry.

“Bernama has also encouraged and gave advice to our beauty queens to be a radio DJ or a news reader. We are certainly looking forward to working with Bernama and for excellent collaboration in our coming and future events,” said Jason.

Azman said the media should play an active role in promoting kebaya lifestyle among women because of its profound artistic features involving cultural and historic values.

The afternoon programme began with an introduction session, corporate video presentation, a lively interactive session and followed by a guided tour of the various departments of the Malaysian national news agency such as Bernama Radio, Bernama News Channel (BNC) and Editorial Department.

At the end of the visit, Datuk Seri Azman Ujang presented a simple commemorative photograph to Jason Hee. The photo was taken earlier from a gathering at the entrance to Wisma Bernama.

Qystina Batrisyia, 20, a finalist of Miss Malaysia Kebaya said she felt grateful and happy being part of the delegation and learned a lot from the experience.

“We now know how they work behind the scenes. During the visit, we get to see how the radio on air works, meet the BNC news anchor and see him anchoring the news live in the studio, and we even get to enter their big office which they called the “heart” of Bernama,” she said.

The law degree student said she was inspired following the visit to Bernama.

“I feel interested to be a newscaster in Bernama and will look into after I’ve finalised my studies. They also give us really useful tips and advices for our upcoming Miss & Mrs Malaysia Kebaya KL & Selangor grand final. It’s such a pleasing memory for all of us,” she said.

The Miss & Mrs Malaysia Kebaya 2018/2019 KL & Selangor state grand finals will be held at Auditorium Kompleks, Jabatan Kebudayaan dan Kesenian Negara Wilayah Persekutuan (JKKNWPKL), Jalan Tun H.S.Lee, Kuala Lumpur on 22nd November 2018.

The Miss & Mrs Malaysia Kebaya 2018/2019 national grand finals will be held at Dewan Auditorium, Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur on 15 December 2018.
