Although a lesser known festival in Malaysia compared to Deepavali and Thaipusam, Panguni Uthiram is one of the most auspicious day in the Hindu calendar.

The day is observed in the twelfth and the last month of the Tamil calendar known as Panguni (March – April), when the star Uthiram coincides with the full moon. It is believed that the Hindu god Murugan married his wife Deivanai on this day.

Devotees in Malaysia thronged the Sacred Balathandayuthapani Murugan temple in Kapar to celebrate this significant day. There were kavadi and chariot processions similar to Thaipusam festival.
