The Johor Bahru Happy and Joyous Club organised for the 11th time, the World Laughter Day celebration in Johor Bahru. This 11th JB-World Laughter Day was held on 5th May (Sun), 2.00pm – 4.00pm at AEON MALL, Bandar Dato Onn, Johor Bahru.
This event attracted more than 300 participants. The Guest of Honour was Associate Professor Sivakumar Thurairajasingam, Deputy Head (Education), Head Medical Education Unit, Clinical School Johor Bahru, Jeffrey Cheah School of Medicine & Health Sciences.
The program included the reading of World Laughter Day Peace Messages in 4 languages (Bahasa Melayu, English, Mandarin and Tamil), Happy Joyous Clown Line Dances, Laughter Group Exercises, Laughter King & Queen contests, Quizzes, Lucky Draw, Silly Walk & Laughter March.
The newly crowned Laughter King was Mohamed Nazri Bin Hussein, 40, who said, “Laughter always make my day happy, not just for me but all those around me. Sickness will go away and I will be healthier and happier. Try to laugh even if I am sad, that will help a lot.”
The lucky Laughter Queen was from Indonesia, aged 25, Endang Rosalina. She said that she is thankful and grateful that laughter can be so happy and will definitely slows down the aging process.
There were publicity booths at the World Laughter Day celebration by other Non-Governmental and Governmental organizations like the JB Breast Cancer Support Group, the Befrienders JB, Toastmasters Clubs, Johor Women’s League (JEWEL) and the Johor Jabatan Pembangunan Wanita.
It was held with the objectives of spreading world peace through laughter, increasing the awareness on the benefits of laughter, working together with other organizations in embracing laughter as part of a healthy lifestyle as well as instilling a sense of friendship and bonding.
World Laughter Day is celebrated worldwide annually on every first Sunday of May. It was created in 1998 by Dr. Madan Kataria, from India and founder of the worldwide Laughter Yoga movement. The celebration of World Laughter Day is a positive manifestation for world peace and is intended to build up a global consciousness of brotherhood and friendship through laughter. Laughter is a universal language. It is a positive and powerful emotion that has all the ingredients required for individuals to change themselves and to change the world in a peaceful and positive way.
