MBPJ councillor, Tiew Way Keng, who is at the centre of a controversial decision to relocate five disabled vendors from their lots in Taman Megah Ria market, today insisted that a lot-swap must be done “due to majority request”.
She, however, stressed that MBPJ and the other vendors in the market have agreed to install disabled facilities at the new lots which will be handed over to the disabled vendors.
“We will install those facilities first, then the disabled vendors will move in,” she told Komunitikini via a phone call (right).
Tiew said the lot-swap between first row (B1-B5) and third row vendors (B11-B15) must be done as the current situation “is affecting everybody”.
“It inconveniences everybody,” she said.
She added that a survey has been conducted and a majority of the vendors are in favour of the lot-swap between vegetable vendors at the third row and disabled vendors at the first row.
To clarify the matter, she will be holding a press conference at the same market tomorrow at 10.30am.
Yesterday, a group of NGOs gathered at a lot belonging to wheelchair-bound vendor Cho Seak Nee to protest against Tiew’s decision.
Cho also claimed that she was forced to apologise to Tiew by some vegetable vendors, who chided her for being ungrateful to Tiew.
