In a bid to create public awareness to combat sexual crime against children, the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce (PCCC) will launch the Stop Sexual Crime Against Children Campaign this week.
The campaign will be launched at the 1st Avenue shopping mall here on Saturday.
The PCCC’s Young Entrepreneurs Division chairman, Oon Weng Boon, said the chamber felt compelled to organise the campaign because sexual crime against children was on the rise.
According to him, it was reported that between 2001 and 2007, sexual crime against children in the state had increased by 200 per cent.
He told a press conference here today, that various activities had been lined up for the public, in conjunction with the launch of the campaign at selected public locations statewide, including stage performances and public talks.
