SPM high achiever did not let poverty stop him

Growing up wasn’t easy as his parents were school clerk and security guard and could not afford electricity and water supply for the family.

The story of K Phugeneswaran who achieved his dreams despite living in poverty is truly inspirational. Growing up wasn’t easy as his parents were school clerk and security guard and could not afford electricity and water supply for the family.

Though wasn’t a consistent top scorer he studied hard even when he had to stay in the school canteen and assembly area for two years. Months prior to his examinations, he even took up a part-time job at a supermarket to pay for extra classes. One of his teachers helped tutor him after school hours as well.

All his hard work paid of when the eldest of five children from SMK Seri Bintang scored 7As in his SPM examinations. His story went viral after one of his teachers took to Facebook to praise his achievement despite the odds. Phugeneswaran was reportedly a well-behaved student who was always neat to school and refused financial assistance from his teachers.

According to the teacher, Phugeneswaran who’s ambition is to be a lawyer was the only student in his school who personally thanked all his teachers after receiving his results.
