Local TV program host Deborah Henry has been crowned the new Miss Universe Malaysia 2011 as the beauty pageant introduced a new format that is set to refine local beauty for a greater global achievements.
Henry, of Malaysian-Irish parentage, edged out other nine finalists with her professionalism, intelligence, dedication to her country and a strong work ethic, said competition director and judge Andrea Fonsenka.
The 26-year old will embark on her eight-month intensive training programme with The Miss Universe Malaysia Organisation (MUMO). The longer training programme is part of the new format which will be fully implemented for the Miss Universe Malaysia 2012 competition at the end of the year.
Upon receiving the crown at the Post Smoke and Fire Variety Club today, the svelte beauty said she is all set to represent Malaysia for the Miss Universe pageant, which will be held in Brazil in September.
“You have to be in it to win it. I will do my best job to bring back the (Miss Universe) crown,”
“I’m thankful that there are so many fans out there who are being supportive to me and the compeition,” she said.

Henry also made a history by being the second woman in Malaysia to achieve a combo of beauty pageant titles, as she reigned as the Miss Malaysia World in 2007 at the age of 22.
Henry was born in Dublin, Ireland and grew up in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This lanky model started her career at the tender age of 15 and got a taste of winning competitions at an early age as a gold medal winning athlete.
She also known for her active participation in charity, notably of co-founding an education centre for Somali children.
