Floods hit four villages in Baling

Malaysian Civil Defence Force spokesman Rasidah Kassim said her team began receiving emergency calls from the victims at about the same time.

According to Rasidah, the downpour started at around 2 pm today, causing the Sungai Kupang to break the banks affecting the houses near the river.

Among the affected villages are Kg Iboi, Kg Tanjung Luas in Mukim Kupang and Kg Sedim and Kg Jernang in Mukim Bakai.

“We have deployed four officers and 13 team members to the two locations and are ready to evacuate the villagers if needed,” she said in a statement on Facebook.

“We are still monitoring, and the residents will be evacuated if the situation goes south,”

She also added that the number of actual victims is unknown, and temporary evacuation centres have been opened at SK Iboi, Sheik Sheh and SMK Jerai.
