Sungai Lembing town, 70km from here, has been hit by floods which forced the evacuation of 16 people and cut off a stretch of the Kuantan-Sungai Lembing road, said a police spokesman.
He said the evacuees, now being accommodated at a relief centre at the Sungai Lembing police station, were from three families whose houses in the town were flooded up to 2.6 metres.
The spokesman said a stretch of 200 metres of the Kuantan-Sungai Lembing road at Km30 was under 1.5 metres of floodwaters and closed to all vehicles.
Pupils of Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Sungai Lembing were allowed to return home earlier when the school was hit by floods, said Chew Kok Leong, 42, chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association.
He also said that students of Sekolah Menengah Sungai Lembing were also allowed to return home earlier.
Chew said people living in other low-lying areas have been advised to brace for floods and move out when instructed to do so.
