More than a hundred houses were severely damaged by thunderstorms in Kangar yesterday.
According to the State Civil Defence force director Lt.Kol (PA) Mohd Izaimi Md Daud, no casualties have been reported.
Mohd Izaimi also said that many of the houses lost its roof from the heavy wind, and roads were blocked with fallen trees.
“The investigations on the damages are still ongoing,” said Mohd Izaimi.
The affected areas were Mata Ayer, Kampung Panggas Kechil, Kampung Lubok Besar, Kuala Perlis, Padang Pauh, Lubuk Sireh, Kangar, Abi, Bukit Keteri, Kurung Batang, Balik Bukit, Wang Besar dan Beseri.
“We hope people are aware of the uncertain weather and always stay vigilant,” he added.
Perlis Islamic and Malay Customs Council Chief Executive Officers informed that the council members and the Perlis Welfare Department had gone to the ground to investigate the extent of the damage.
He also added that the Perlis Welfare Department would assist as soon as they get more information.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department, rain is forecast in the morning, with thunderstorms in the afternoon in one or two places in the state’s interior until this Sunday.
