Some 500 senior citizens in Tanjung Karang parliamentary constituency today received motorcycle riding licence under the ‘One Community One JPJ Programme.’
Oil palm plantation mandore O.Ramalingam, 53, said finally he managed to own a valid motorycle licence after 20 years of riding without one.
“I used to turn back on seeing roadblocks. I am not scared anymore,” he said when met at the programme’s closing ceremony at Kampung Sungai Tengi Kanan here today.
The senior citizens registered for the programme in June and sat for road traffic regulation courses and trained riding motorcycles for three months.
Ramalingam thanked the Road Transport Department (JPJ) and Tanjung Karang Barisan Nasional for helping him to own a licence.
Meanwhile, JPJ deputy director-general Datuk Ismail Ahmad said the programme helping senior citizens own riding licence was aimed at strengthening ties with rural people.
He said under the programme, senior citizens need not sit for computerized road traffic tests and only sat for oral tests.
They were only charged RM80 for lessons, much lower fees compared to those charged by driving schools.
