Shell Malaysia held its first #ShellSelamatSampai Road Safety Carnival in Putrajaya on Wednesday as part of its road safety campaign.
Secretary-General of the Ministry of Transport, Dato’ Jana Santhiran Muniayan, graced the event, representing Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Haji Hasbi Habibollah. With a history of advocating for road safety among Malaysians, Shell’s effort in promoting road safety spans over six decades, benefiting over 1 million school children nationwide. The carnival aimed to engage the community in an exciting and fun way.
The event started with the #ShellSelamatSampai Fun Run, a 5km race designed with road safety in mind. Managing Director of Shell Malaysia Trading and Shell Timur Shairan Huzani Husain flagged off the Fun Run. The carnival activities included a motorcycle maintenance sharing session led by the Shell Advance team, a learning experience on heavy vehicle blind spots, and an Active Fatigue Detection Device in two Shell road tankers. Visitors also got to try out a seatbelt convincer machine and a driving simulator.
In addition to the activities, the carnival had entertainment and games for the whole family. Shell’s road safety partners also had booths, and JPJ brought a driver’s licence renewal mobile truck. The Putrajaya Food Truck Association and Shell Café provided food and beverages. The carnival included the #ShellSelamatSampai e-Learning Module in the Education Ministry’s DELIMa portal, providing a fun learning experience on road safety education for 2.5 million secondary school students nationwide.
The #ShellSelamatSampai Varsity Challenge empowers university students to develop innovative road safety intervention solutions. Shell Malaysia expressed gratitude for the support of its esteemed partners, including the Ministry of Transport, Road Transport Department (JPJ), Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Ministry of Education, PanduLaju, and many others who contributed to the success of the #ShellSelamatSampai initiative.
Country Chair of Shell Malaysia and Senior Vice President Upstream Malaysia, Siti Sulaiman, shared that Shell had worked closely with various stakeholders to promote road safety among Malaysians. The carnival resulted from a collective effort. She added that creating awareness of road safety is crucial, and Shell would continue to do its part to make the roads safer for everyone.
