Penang’s Bayan Baru area has launched a new e-hailing service, Kumpool, which aims to reduce traffic congestion while providing convenience to commuters. Unlike other e-hailing services, Kumpool is a ride-pooling platform, using a van within a radius of 5km.

Kumpool is currently available for residents in the Bayan Baru area, including locations such as Queensbay Mall, USM, Sungai Nibong Bus Terminal, Bukit Jambul Shopping Complex, Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, and many others.

Its manager, Goh Chun Hean, hopes that Kumpool will provide a more affordable and convenient ride-pooling platform for passengers while helping to reduce traffic jams.

During the launch ceremony of the Kumpool app at Super Tanker Food Court near Taman Lip Sin, Goh said, “We will also be expanding our service to other areas in the future. So, I would like to call upon the residents in this neighbourhood to download our app and try our service.”

Guests of honour at the ceremony included State Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, and Batu Uban assemblyman A. Kumaresan.

According to Sim, the Kumpool ride-pooling service can be helpful for students, working adults, as well as market-goers. Zairil added that various transport services in Penang help enhance the transport network overall.
