‘Namaastay Hip-hop’ concert set to rock Kuala Lumpur

Namaastay Hip-hop will feature established and upcoming artists from the local Tamil hip-hop scene such as Yogi B, Dr Burn, and Emcee Jesz, and many more.

Kuala Lumpur is set to host the very first Tamil hip-hop festival, ‘Namaastay Hip-hop’, featuring almost 36 local artists, on the 20th of May 2023.

The 12-hour show will feature both established and upcoming artists from the local Tamil hip-hop industry such as Yogi B, Dr Burn, and Emcee Jesz, along with renowned DJs. The concert will also feature artists such as Arvind Raj, Music Kitchen, INC, and Sheezay.

The festival aims to provide a platform for Malaysian hip-hop artists to showcase their talents and give emerging artists in local Tamil entertainment a chance to shine brightly alongside the industry’s pioneers.

Organized by FourOne6, the event is expected to attract 1500 to 2000 attendees.

The golden era of the Malaysian Tamil Hip-Hop scene

Tamil hip-hop music has been gaining popularity among youths in Malaysia since the late 90s and early 2000s. Rappers such as Yogeswaran Veerasingam also known as Yogi B, have emerged as talented artists and have garnered a huge following.

DJ Ruckes believes that the upcoming ‘Naamastay Hip-hop’ concert will serve as a platform to relive the golden era of the Malaysia Tamil hip-hop scene. By featuring popular acts like Yogi B & Nakshatra, alongside new and emerging artists, the concert is expected to ignite interest and passion for the genre among the audience.

“We hope that by showcasing a diverse range of talent, we can continue to grow and develop the local Tamil hip-hop industry,” DJ Ruckes told Astro Ulagam.

Festive atmosphere at Namaastay Hip-hop

In addition to the musical performances, there will be a range of carnivals, games, food trucks, and exciting booth setups for the audience to experience. The organizers of the event have gone to great lengths to ensure that the concert is a memorable experience for everyone who attends.

To ensure a successful event, FourOne6 began selling tickets by giving out free tickets to the first 100 attendees. Tickets for the event will be available for purchase beginning on April 12, 2023, with an early bird price of RM89.

Janarthanan, the event organizer, said, “We are anticipating about 1500 to 2000 range of crowd attending this event, having to embrace and celebrate the home-grown upcoming generation combined with the pioneers altogether at one event.”

This is FourOne6’s second hip-hop concert, with the first being organized to promote the upcoming hip-hop talents. The inclusion of established acts in ‘Namaastay Hip-hop’ FourOne6 hopes to set the bar high for future events.
