ITEX 2023, the International Invention, Innovation, and Technology Exhibition, concluded its two-day event at The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) with an awards presentation ceremony.
The opening event was graced by the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI), Chang Lih Kang, who expressed his enthusiasm for the exhibition’s impact on addressing climate change.
With participants from over 20 countries, ITEX showcased cutting-edge inventions from Asia and Europe, emphasizing the theme “Technology Reversing Climate Change.” More than 80% of the showcased inventions embodied climate technology features aimed at addressing climate change impacts.
Organized by the Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), ITEX aimed to create a sustainable future by promoting inventions that contribute to a cleaner and greener environment, according to academician Tan Sri Emeritus Prof Datuk Dr Augustine Ong Soon Hock, the founding president of MINDS.
As a professional marketplace, ITEX facilitated the connection between forward-thinking inventions and pioneering technologies with industry needs, fostering improvements in the quality of life. Last year’s event attracted over 5,000 visitors from 75 countries, including venture capitalists, investors, manufacturers, and industrial designers who sought business alliances with inventors.
Concurrent exhibitions, including the World Young Inventors Exhibition (WYIE), Asia Young Inventors Exhibition (AYIE), and Malaysia Young Inventors Exhibition (MYIE), provided opportunities for budding young scientists to showcase their creations to funders, investors, and industry representatives.
These exhibitions aimed to inspire increased participation in STEM education and received a growing number of inventions from 16 countries and regions, fostering international collaboration and encouraging young talent.
ITEX offered inventors and innovators ample opportunities to demonstrate their expertise and creativity through seven competition categories and 25 exhibit classifications, tackling everyday challenges with innovative solutions.
The awards at ITEX recognized outstanding and innovative inventions across various categories, including corporate, universities, educational institutions, research institutions, startups, and individuals. Additionally, the exhibitions under WYIE, AYIE, and MYIE highlighted exceptional inventions by students from tertiary, secondary, and primary schools.
Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) achieved remarkable success at ITEX 23, securing a total of 10 medals. The university emerged as one of the big winners, receiving four gold medals and six silver medals for the outstanding research products developed by lecturers from various faculties.
ITEX 2023 showcased the power of innovation and technology in addressing climate change challenges. By bringing together inventors, researchers, investors, and industry leaders, the exhibition fueled advancements in sustainable solutions and inspired a generation of young scientists to contribute to the field of STEM.
