NU Sentral management office announced that the shopping centre has been closed down due to an unscheduled power cut earlier this afternoon. The management confirmed the closure on Facebook and apologized for the inconvenience caused.

The mall’s staff and shoppers were evacuated, and the office has promised to provide updates on the situation.

Following this, Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) said the power cut at KL Sentral was due to a different power-supply issue and the transportation system at the KL Sentral was not affected.

Residents of condominiums near the station, including The Sentral Residences, had earlier reported unexpected power cuts to their buildings.

The fire incident has resulted in the closure of the NU Sentral shopping centre, which is connected to the affected area. Authorities, including TNB and the Fire and Rescue Department, continue to investigate the cause of the fire and ensure the necessary measures are taken to secure the premises.

As the incident unfolded, residents and businesses in the affected areas experienced power disruptions. TNB’s prompt response and efforts to restore electricity reflect their commitment to minimizing the impact on customers. Users are encouraged to stay updated through official channels and contact TNB for any inquiries or assistance.

All offices, hotels and retail outlets located within Mid Valley City, the mixed development that includes Mid Valley Megamall, will resume operations on Thursday, the mall’s operators said after receiving clearance from TNB and the fire department.

Investigations ongoing at Mid Valley

TNB and the Fire and Rescue Department are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the fire at Mid Valley. The department’s operations commander, Wan Mohd Sharir Asizi Wan Said, said that the fire was put out completely at 12.44 PM.

The incident involved the main intake substation to the TNB transformer room at Mid Valley, with an area of 40×40 square feet, and approximately 70% has been destroyed.

The fire was believed to have been caused by overheating of oil that was meant to cool an electrical transformer at the mall’s main power substation,

Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department operations assistant director Fatta Amin said the oil can withstand temperatures of 137 degrees, Bernama reported.

“However, it is believed that the substation was excessively hot and suddenly started burning,” he told reporters at the mall, adding that only one of four substations belonging to the building was on fire.

All the substations were capable of supplying power within a 10km radius of Mid Valley, Fatta said.

At the time of writing, there is no update regarding the reopening of NU Sentral tomorrow.
