Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) has launched an exciting art project, the Wall Art @ Penang Hill Lower Station, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Penang Hill Railway.

This collaboration between PHC and Equator College Penang aims to capture the beauty of Penang Hill’s natural surroundings and the charm of its funicular through a stunning rooftop mural.

The project, initially conceived in 2019 but delayed due to the pandemic, finally came to fruition today, showcasing the talents of Equator College students and celebrating the creative industry in Penang.

In addition to the rooftop mural, the Penang Hill Lower Station Gallery features other extraordinary art installations. Nason Ponniah’s Penang Hill Nickel Pin Art Monument, the world’s largest nickel-plated pin art, stands as a testament to artistic ingenuity with approximately 2,316,500 pins.

The pillars are adorned with Esther Geh’s exquisite flora and fauna artwork, while Thomas Powell’s nature-themed painting graces the station’s rooftop. Notably, Fuan Wong’s ‘renewal’ sculpture, crafted from disused parts of the funicular, adds a distinctive creative touch to the area.

These remarkable art pieces demonstrate the diversity and talent within Penang Hill’s art scene, with PHC proudly supporting and promoting local artists.
