In a celebration of sustainability and community spirit, the 60th edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day@Ipoh Low Carbon City was held earlier this morning in conjunction with the 35th Ipoh City Day Celebration.
This much-anticipated event attracted the attention and participation of approximately 2,000 enthusiastic residents of Ipoh.
Organized by the Ipoh City Council (MBI), this initiative aims to establish Ipoh as a Low Carbon City and achieve the Low Carbon City 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C).
The program focuses on promoting a low-carbon lifestyle, fostering a sense of community, and enhancing the overall happiness index of the residents.
Transforming Ipoh into a Low Carbon City
The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is committed to transforming Ipoh into a Low Carbon City and creating a Low Carbon Community among its residents.
This initiative aims to raise awareness about sustainable living practices and reduce carbon emissions. By encouraging alternative modes of transportation and reducing dependency on motor vehicles, the council seeks to enhance air quality and create a healthier environment for all.
The Ipoh Car Free Day serves as a platform to educate and engage residents in adopting a low-carbon lifestyle, promoting active living, and embracing green practices. Through initiatives like this, the council envisions a future where Ipoh thrives as a sustainable city while maintaining its cultural heritage.
Promoting healthy lifestyles and community interaction
One of the key objectives of Ipoh Car-Free Day@Ipoh Low Carbon City is to promote healthy lifestyles among the residents.
Various activities are organized to encourage physical activity and active living. One such event is the Hey Ladies Fun Walk, covering a distance of 3.5 kilometres. This activity witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 200 women and young girls.
Participants not only enjoyed the physical exercise but also had the opportunity to win exciting prizes, including electrical appliances, hampers, and goodies.
Additionally, the collaboration between the Perak State Youth and Sports Department and the Fitness Club resulted in the Fit @ Community aerobic exercise event, promoting fitness and overall well-being among the attendees.
The highlight of the Ipoh Car Free Day@Ipoh Low Carbon City was the launch of the No Plastic Bag Campaign, led by the City Licensing Department. This campaign aims to raise awareness about the harmful impact of plastic on the environment and encourage residents to adopt sustainable alternatives.
By reducing plastic bag usage, the council takes a significant step toward a cleaner and greener Ipoh. The success of these events and initiatives can be attributed to the commitment and leadership of Dato’ Rumaizi bin [email protected], the Mayor of Ipoh, who officially launched the festivities.
