Recognizing Malaysia’s status as an ageing nation, KLWC is designed to cater to the evolving healthcare needs of the population.

With more than 15% of Malaysians projected to be above the age of 65 by 2050, the project incorporates facilities dedicated to comprehensive healthcare, elderly care, retirement resorts, and independent and assisted living.

Dato’ Dr Colin emphasized that the KL Wellness City master plan encompasses thousands of facilities and residences, taking a significant step towards embracing an ageing nation.

This aligns with Malaysia’s commitment to WHO’s Universal Health Coverage and Sustainable Development Goals, ensuring equitable healthcare and wellness for all.

Cultivating local medical talents and innovative healthcare services

The flagship KL International Hospital (KLIH), a tertiary hospital with 624 beds scalable to 1,000 beds, will serve as a leading institution within KL Wellness City.

The hospital aims to rival renowned medical institutions in the region, such as Thailand’s Bumrungrad International Hospital and Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Novena.

Equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment, KLIH will provide a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including wellness and fitness facilities across various specialities, such as cardiology, spine health, neuro health, sports medicine, cosmetic surgery, and fertility.

The hospital will also house research and development laboratories for clinical studies. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) has pledged support for KLIH, with an estimated investment of RM860 million.

Set to commence operations in the first half of 2026, the hospital will create over 3,000 job opportunities for medical professionals, further contributing to Malaysia’s healthcare sector.

Dr Zaliha Mustafa, Minister of Health Malaysia, commended KLWC’s commitment to raising the bar for healthy living and well-being.

The Ministry of Health fully supports the project, recognizing its potential to attract leading specialists and enhance patient care while solidifying Malaysia’s position in the region.
