The Penang International Food Festival 2023, themed “Gourmet Stars of Penang,” provided visitors with a unique gastronomic experience within the historical setting of Fort Cornwallis.
This two-day event showcased the culinary excellence of Penang, featuring renowned Michelin Guide awardees. Alongside the festival, the state exco for Tourism and Creative Economy launched a Michelin Guide video and brochure, aiming to promote Penang on a global scale and highlight its vibrant culinary culture.
Michelin guide recognition and promotion of Penang
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin expressed the significance of the Michelin Guide video in promoting Penang to a global audience.
This video, to be featured on Michelin Guide’s social media platform, serves as a testament to the culinary excellence of Penang.
It invites visitors to explore the diverse flavours, captivating aromas, and rich culture that have put Penang on the Michelin Guide’s radar.
The inclusion of Penang’s Michelin Guide recognition in the PIFF 2023 provides a platform to showcase the state’s local flavours and international cuisines to a wider audience.
Food Festival, Fort Cornwallis restoration and heritage tourism
Apart from the culinary delights, Penang is renowned for its heritage attractions. The state government has invested RM20 million in restoring Fort Cornwallis‘s moats, preserving its historical significance.
The restoration project is expected to be completed and open to the public by 2025, offering a glimpse into Penang’s past.
Additionally, the government has allocated RM1.5 million to convert the fort’s restored storerooms into a mini gallery, creating a space to showcase Penang’s rich heritage.
The gallery is scheduled to be completed by August this year, further enhancing the visitor experience at Fort Cornwallis.
The Penang International Food Festival 2023’s “Gourmet Stars of Penang” event at Fort Cornwallis showcased the culinary excellence of Penang while immersing visitors in its historical ambience.
