The KTM women-only coach was extended to Rawang-Seremban route recently after gaining positive support from the female passengers.

KTMB’s corporate communications acting senior manager, Mohd Fazil Ismail told Komunitikini that the service was extended to the Rawang-Seremban line last Saturday as it successfully reduced female harassment cases during peak hours.

When asked whether the all-women coach is less full compared to mixed coaches, Fazil said the numbers on all coaches is at a comfortable level.

“The ratio between our female and male passengers is 60:40 per cent, so it would not really cause trouble.”

The commuter service corporate introduced the women-only coaches for the Sentul-Pelabuhan Klang route last month.

Upon its implementation, the middle coach of each train will be women-only, while the other two remain mixed coaches.

Fazil said a train is able to accommodate 600 passengers a trip, so the all-women coach would work well for at least 200 females.

“Now our major problem is to educate the passengers, especially the male foreigners who often enter the wrong coach.

Meanwhile he said the same implementation for the upcoming Batu Caves-Sentul line has yet to be finalised.

“If we have enough trains for the line, we will (include it).”

The Batu Caves-Sentul KTM route is set to launch in July with four new stations: Taman Wahyu, Kampung Batu, Batu Cantonment and Batu Caves.
