IJN clarifies misconceptions amidst social media accusations

IJN responds to social media allegations, clarifying it’s government-owned and is dedicated to top-notch healthcare services

The Institut Jantung Negara (IJN) has responded to recent allegations made by a group called “Concern Pensioners,” which had been circulating on social media and WhatsApp platforms. The accusations were deemed inaccurate and unjustified, prompting the esteemed medical institution to address the misconceptions and provide clarity on its operations.

In a press release statement, IJN asserted that it has never been privatised, contrary to the claims. Instead, it has been corporatised since its inception, remaining fully owned by the government under the Minister of Finance Incorporated. As a corporatised entity, IJN operates under the Malaysian Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998, coming under the purview of the Ministry of Health.

“Approximately 84.7% of our workload comprises patients from the government sectors (employees, pensioners and their dependents). 14.9% are privately paying patients (insurance coverage and cash) and 0.4% are foreign patients” the statement clarified on its demographic while adding that these figures are transparently available in the institution’s performance reports, accessible to the public on its official website.

Addressing the process of seeking treatment at IJN, the Public Service Department (JPA) has outlined specific requirements for government employees, pensioners, and their dependents. Patients must obtain a referral from government or private hospitals/clinics and be referred by a Physician, Cardiologist, or Emergency Physician.

“Following to the “ Surat Pekeliling Ketua Pengarah Kesihatan Bil 12/2002 – Garis Panduan Rawatan Susulan di IJN bagi Pesakit Tanggungan Kerajaan”, patients are to be discharged back to the referring hospital 12 months after undergoing procedure/surgery, provided the patient requires continuous follow-up treatment and management.” The statement read while adding that this is a regulated guideline by the Ministry of Health that IJN is obligated to follow.

The statement also conveyed gratitude for the continuous support of government employees and retirees, acknowledging their significant contributions in shaping IJN into the respected institution it is today. Their dedication to Malaysians’ well-being and health remains steadfast, as echoed by IJN’s dedication to its primary mission of providing exceptional medical services to all Malaysians.

In light of the clarification provided by IJN, the institution hopes that the public will have a better understanding of its operations and the services it offers.
