Penang’s Shirdi Sai Baba Centre marks the 66th Malaysian Independence Day by distributing Malaysian flags and free meals in George Town.

In anticipation of the 66th Malaysian Independence Day, the Penang Shirdi Sai Baba Centre orchestrated a heartening gesture by distributing Malaysian flags and complimentary food to gold and jewellery shop operators and patrons in George Town.

This initiative resonates with the centre’s longstanding commitment to community welfare and harmony, embodying the teachings of the revered Indian spiritual master, Shirdi Sai Baba.

In an act that epitomizes the spirit of unity and compassion, the Penang Shirdi Sai Baba Centre took to the streets of George Town to extend its heartwarming offerings.

The distribution event, graced by the presence of State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim, unfolded across Queen Street and Market Street – hubs of Indian boutiques, gold and jewellery shops, and restaurants.

Kannan Baba, the chairman of the Shirdi Sai Baba Society of Malaysia, revealed that the centre meticulously prepared ice kacang and lunch meals to serve 350 individuals, complemented by distributing around 1,000 Malaysian flags.

This initiative, which holds a decade-long tradition, aligns with the Shirdi Sai Baba philosophy of selfless service and care for all, regardless of their background or beliefs.

The essence of the Shirdi Sai Baba Centre’s mission shines through in its dedication to following the ideals set forth by Shirdi Sai Baba himself – the practice of feeding people irrespective of their religious, racial, or cultural affiliations.

Kannan Baba underscored that the flag distribution stands as a collective symbol of affection for the nation, while the distribution of free meals underscores the centre’s commitment to compassion and unity.

Amidst the distribution, Lim Siew Khim, the State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman, lauded the centre’s altruistic efforts. She commended the centre for not only its commendable acts of compassion but also its extensive array of initiatives over the last 15 years.

Lim noted the special significance of the occasion, which intertwined moments of camaraderie with the distribution of miniature Jalur Gemilang (Malaysian flag).

As the Penang Shirdi Sai Baba Centre’s benevolent actions resonate with Shirdi Sai Baba’s teachings, they embody the principles of unity, compassion, and social harmony.
