Tourism Malaysia strengthens Cambodian partnerships

Tourism Malaysia fosters collaborations with Cambodian travel agents through seminars in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, aiming to boost tourism ties and attract more visitors.

Tourism Malaysia is intensifying its global marketing endeavours by hosting seminars in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. These events, featuring business-to-business sessions and networking luncheons, aim to facilitate potential partnerships between Malaysian and Cambodian tourism players.

With a focus on strengthening ties, the seminars bring together 80 Cambodian travel agents, local media in Phnom Penh City, and 35 Cambodian travel agents in Siem Reap Province, engaging them with 14 Malaysian travel trade partners, encompassing various sectors of the tourism industry.

Forging collaborations with Cambodian tourism

Spanning from August 7 to 12, 2023, the seminars serve as a platform for Malaysian and Cambodian tourism professionals to explore avenues of collaboration.

The Malaysian delegation, spearheaded by Zalina Ahmad, Deputy Director of International Promotions Division (Southeast Asia), Tourism Malaysia, includes representatives from prominent names in the travel industry.

This roster features Malaysia Airlines, AirAsia, Lanmei Airlines Cambodia, AnCasa Hotels & Resorts, and several others.

The gatherings foster B2B interactions and networking opportunities, aiming to pave the way for mutually beneficial partnerships that could drive tourism growth for both nations. With increased direct flights connecting Cambodia to Kuala Lumpur, the potential for travel between the two countries is ripe for expansion.

Shared tourism goals

Dato’ Dr. Ammar Abd. Ghapar, Director-General of Tourism Malaysia, expressed enthusiasm about working closely with Cambodian travel agents. He conveyed his appreciation for their continuous efforts in promoting Malaysia as a travel destination. The prospects of enhanced connectivity and collaboration are set to bolster Malaysia’s appeal as a preferred choice for Cambodian tourists.

Pot Rany, Tourism Malaysia’s Marketing Representative in Cambodia, affirmed her commitment to facilitating new travel package initiatives to attract more Cambodian visitors to Malaysia. This proactive approach demonstrates Tourism Malaysia’s dedication to supporting its counterparts and encouraging the successful promotion of Malaysia’s attractions.

Malaysia’s tourism ambitions for 2023 include attracting 16.1 million international tourist arrivals and generating RM 49.2 billion in tourism receipts. In 2022, 39,823 Cambodian tourists visited Malaysia, with positive momentum continuing into the current year, registering 18,118 arrivals in the first quarter alone.

The seminars organised by Tourism Malaysia in collaboration with Cambodian travel agents underscore the significance of international partnerships in the tourism sector. As both nations work together to strengthen ties and share resources, the potential for increased tourist flows is substantial.
