Charity golf event raises funds for Persatuan Sindrom Down

The Charity Golf Event 2023, a collaborative effort between Persatuan Sindrom Down Malaysia (PSDM) and UKM Fairway Philanthropists (UFP), has achieved resounding success, garnering strong community support and raising approximately RM100,000.

Held at Bukit Jalil Golf and Country Resort on 20 August 2023, the event brought together golf enthusiasts to contribute towards PSDM’s cause.

Driving positive change through charity

The Charity Golf Event 2023 proved to be a testament to unity and collaboration within the community. The event’s proceeds will play a pivotal role in the establishment of PSDM’s new Early Intervention Center at University Malaya.

The raised funds will support facility enhancements and the provision of educational resources, underscoring the commitment towards creating a more inclusive society.

Hanizan Hussin, President of PSDM, expressed gratitude for the event’s success, stating, “The Charity Golf Event 2023 has showcased our community’s remarkable spirit and brought us closer to realizing our vision for inclusivity.

Beyond the funds raised, the event has also enhanced awareness and understanding of Down Syndrome, contributing to the holistic development of these exceptional individuals.”

Collaboration and impact

Dr. Gary Tok, Project Director of UFP, commended the event’s positive response, highlighting the power of collaboration and community-driven initiatives.

Co-organized by MBA students from UKM Graduate School of Business, the charity tournament brought together a diverse range of supporters, including sponsors like Harlow’s & MGI Sdn Bhd (Gold Sponsor), Tan Sri Vincent Tan of Berjaya Group, and various entities.

The Charity Golf Event 2023 saw 95 enthusiastic golfers participating in a friendly competition. Among the participants were individuals from organizations like Allo Technology Sdn. Bhd. and Tenaga Nasional Recreation Golf Club (TNRGC). The event also saw a putting challenge that attracted 41 players, showcasing the event’s diverse appeal.

The Charity Golf Event 2023 not only raised substantial funds but also promoted community engagement and awareness about Down Syndrome. PSDM’s mission to create a more inclusive society was evident through this initiative. Moreover, a portion of the funds raised was allocated to four NGOs, exemplifying the event’s far-reaching impact on various causes.

The event’s winners, including Lam Kong Foo, Ahmad Zaini Zainal, Yee Yen Mew, Chan Tim Yeow, and Mohd Zin Bin Su, demonstrated their dedication not only to golf but also to making a difference. The Charity Golf Event 2023 serves as an inspiring example of how community-driven initiatives can create meaningful change, contributing to the betterment of society.
