Shopee takes the spotlight with its “Unveiling Malaysian Gems” campaign, urging Malaysians to champion local e-commerce sellers for the preservation of heritage, nurturing talents, and driving an inclusive and sustainable economy.

Shopee empowering local commerce

Set to launch this Merdeka Day, Shopee’s pioneering initiative encourages purposeful shopping, with a focus on Made-in-Malaysia products from underserved communities. The campaign aligns with Shopee’s mission of empowering the underserved through technology.

By identifying and promoting local sellers, Shopee enhances their access to marketing solutions and hyper-localised campaigns. The platform further aids their success through seller education via Shopee University courses and incentivizes their participation in Livestream commerce.

At the core of this campaign is a 100-page booklet, the first in a series, amplifying the voices of Malaysian sellers breaking online barriers. It features top-performing Shopee sellers from each state, including those excelling in popularity, green products, exports, livestreaming, and women-owned businesses. The booklet also shares street-level stories and testimonials of sellers who have uplifted their communities through online success.

Fostering local sustainability

Shopee harnesses the “Unveiling Malaysian Gems” campaign to raise awareness about the impact of supporting small, independent local sellers. This approach preserves local industries, reduces carbon footprints, elevates personalised offerings, and stimulates homegrown entrepreneurship and innovation.

Beyond commerce, the booklet serves as a safeguarding guide, providing tips for secure online shopping, understanding the Shopee Guarantee, identifying responsible sellers, and ensuring 100% authenticity.

Kenneth Soh, Head of Marketing at Shopee Malaysia, highlighted the campaign’s significance. He stressed the vital role of local businesses in communities, stating that supporting them online aids Made-in-Malaysia products from underserved communities. Shopee remains committed to supporting these local sellers on their e-commerce journey.
